EFT Cafe – 14th November 2018 – Four Step Questioning For Better Tapping

Four Step QuestionsOne of the principles of EFT / Tapping is to be specific.

Unfortunately a lot of our problems seem vague and elusive.

How do you tap on low self esteem, general discontent, poor relationships, procrastination or indecisiveness?

Some things are just so vague that it’s like tapping on fog. So how can you get specific enough to tap?

In this month’s EFT Cafe on Wednesday 14th, November 2018 at 7pm Andy Hunt will demonstrate a four part questioning process to help you turn the vague and general into the concrete and specific.

In short, it will give you something to tap on.

EFT Cafe – 10th October 2018 – How We Exist In The Minds Of Others

How we exist in the minds of othersHumans are social animals that thrive best in supportive groups and families.

The threat of being excluded from our social group can provoke a lot of fear and distress.

In order to understand how to fit in and get along with our caregivers and companions we soon learn how to imagine how other people think of us, and feel about us, so we can predict what others will do next and how best to respond to stay safe in our ‘tribe’.

As very young children we develop a ‘theory of mind’: the ability to attribute mental states—beliefs, intents, desires, emotions, knowledge, etc.—to oneself, and to others, and to understand that others have beliefs, desires, intentions, and perspectives that are different from one’s own.

With a good theory of mind we can empathise, choose appropriate gifts, ‘read’ body language and non-verbal cues, predict how someone will respond to a situation and many manage other facets of social life.

Our theory of ‘how we exist in the minds of others’ radically shape our experience.

If we think others think well of us then we will be comfortable and resourceful in our social world.

If we think others think badly of us we may feel (and fear being) unattractive, rejectable or vulnerable to attack.

In this week’s EFT Cafe on Wednesday, 10th October, Andy Hunt will explore using EFT to change the way we think other people think of us so we can be more resourceful, congruent and confident with others.

EFT Cafe – 12th September – The Polarity Process

Polarity ProcessThe Polarity Process, designed by Steve Wells is a way of systematically softening our negative self-beliefs by working with the good and the bad of the ‘negative’ belief and its opposite the ‘positive’ belief.

By systematically processing the pros and cons of our limiting beliefs we can relax them into something more useful (and find greater self acceptance while doing it).

Join Andy Hunt at the EFT Cafe at 7pm on Wednesday 12th September to find out how to use this process.

The EFT Cafe is held at St Oswald’s Hospice, Newcastle upon Tyne and costs just £10.

EFT Level 1 Training – 1st & 2nd September – Newcastle upon Tyne

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), also known as ‘Tapping’, is a simple, yet very effective, healing process that uses your body’s built in stress relief system.

By tapping with your fingertips on the ends of acupuncture meridians you can reduce, or eliminate, all types of negative emotions including fears, anger, phobias, grief, traumatic memories, stress and anxiety.

Learning EFT/Tapping at these workshops may be helpful for people who:

  • suffer from stress – they can feel as if life is getting too much for them and they are struggling to cope with their emotional challenges.
  • experience anxiety – they might find that simple experiences trigger unnecessary fear or apprehension.
  • are upset by unhappy memories – they find that there are some memories that they just can’t let go of, even remembering them is distressing and stressful.
  • have unwanted emotional reactions to people or situations – they may react to situations or people in ways that they don’t like but feel unable to change.
  • feel that their emotions are out of control – it’s as if their emotions have a mind of their own, no matter what they do they still feel bad when they think they shouldn’t.
  • have a busy or troubled mind – they go over difficult memories or imaginings time after time, getting nowhere but feeling bad about it.
  • want ways to manage cravings – they would like not to have to struggle to resist chocolate, cigarrettes, wine, junk TV and many other unwanted temptations.
  • would like to treat common aches and pains– they want a simple technique that help them ease their own physical discomforts.
  • would like more peace of mind – they just want to be more comfortable in their body and mind.

If that sounds like you this two-day AAMET EFT Level 1 Foundations Training is designed to give you a thorough introduction to EFT and give you the skills and confidence to use it in everyday life

The training includes:

  • An introduction to the history and principles of EFT.
  • How to use EFT to take the stress and distress out of everyday problems.
  • How to neutralise unpleasant memories with EFT.
  • Using EFT to ease cravings and sooth physical discomfort.
  • How to use EFT in daily life to be less stressed and more effective.

Important: These EFT Level 1 Training courses are designed to show you how to use EFT to relieve your own issues and to do simple work with family and friends. This is not a substitute for personal therapy, nor will it train you to be an EFT therapist in your own right, though you may use the certificate to attend an EFT Level 2 course for further training.

The course includes a full manual and all training materials. At the end of the training day you will receive an AAMET EFT Level 1 Attendance Certificate which is required if you want to progress to the EFT Level 2 training to add EFT to your professional tool box.

This training is fully self-contained and open to all, after attending you will be able to use EFT confidently for a variety of issues. If you want to go further, developing your EFT skills for working with other people, it serves as the foundation for the Level 2 / AAMET EFT Practitioner course.

EFT Cafe – 13th June 2018 – Tapping Into And With Intention

Intention TappingI’ve just come back from a four day workshop with Steve Wells the creator of Intention Energy Processes or Intention Tapping. I was knocked out by how fast and versatile these processes are for shifting stuck and hard to work with difficulties.

Intention Tapping is a very different way of using tapping processes to work with the challenges (aka problems) in our lives.

Rather than addressing the problem itself, IEP works to dissolve our attachment to the emotional stuff that causes many of our difficulties.

It’s fast, it’s simple and it allows your unconscious mind to do most of the work.

In this month’s EFT Cafe, Andy Hunt will demonstrate the basics of IEP and how you can use it to let go of stuff you no longer need to carry. The EFT Cafe is on Wednesday 13th June from 7pm to 9pm at St Oswald’s Hospice Education Centre, Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne and costs just £10.

EFT Cafe – 9th May 18 – Foursquare Tapping

Most of us want to be different.

We want what we don’t have and we have what we don’t and those two things seem a long way apart.

We feel like we have ‘bad’ qualities that we don’t like and want to get rid of and good qualities that we admire and want for ourselves.

We might feel lazy and want to be disciplined, selfish and want to be grateful, reserved and want to be more enthusiastic, but if we want to be more disciplined, grateful or enthusiastic why don’t we just do that?

What is holding us back and what can we do about it?

In this month’s EFT Cafe Andy Hunt introduces Foursquare tapping a process for exploring and changing the pros and cons of change.

The EFT Cafe is on from 7pm – 9pm at St Oswald’s Hospice Education centre on Wednesday 9th May.

EFT Cafe – 11th Apr 2018 – Tapping  Into More Control In Your Life

Humans have agency, we can make decisions and cause things to happen, in other words we can be ‘at cause’ in our lives.

Being at cause means we are resourceful, capable and able to act to influence our lives and we know that we are. We feel that we are able to influence the outcome of our lives.

On the other hand if we feel we are ‘at effect’ the world does things to us and we can’t change anything. Other people and circumstances control our lives, we might feel we have no agency and can’t influence what happens to us.

In this state of learned helplessness we feel powerless to change anything, we are a hostage to other people and circumstances.

Being at effect can show up in our language when people say things like this:

  • There is nothing I can do until they ….
  • My family run my life.
  • I have to wait until they …
  • etc

In this month’s EFT Cafe  Andy Hunt will demonstrate a tapping process that helps us reclaim our agency so we can exert more influence and control on our lives.

EFT Cafe – 14th Mar 2018 – Tapping Into Metaphor

We are built to think in metaphors.

If you are down in the dumps, as high as a kite, or at a crossroads in your life you are thinking in metaphors.

We understand the world and how it works through metaphor. We do this so easily and naturally that we barely notice it is happening.

Our metaphors of life, work, relationships and the world shape the way with think and feel.
In this week’s EFT Cafe join Andy Hunt to explore tapping with metaphors using a structured, step by step, tapping process.

The EFT Cafe is on Wednesday 14th March at 7pm at St Oswald’s Hospice from 7pm to 9pm.

EFT Cafe – 14th Feb 2018 – WOOPing & WOOTing

It’s an accepted part of the self-help culture in the West that visualising your success ‘attracts’ that success to you, making it more likely that you will achieve your goals.

Unfortunately that idea doesn’t stand up well to research. Many research studies have shown that people who just visualise their success are less likely to achieve their goes.

In ‘Rethinking Postive Thinking‘ Gabrielle Oettingen, who is responsible for a lot of the research on visualisation, shows that a simple change to the visualise your success approach can make a big improvement to your chances of success.

She calls her four step process WOOP:

  • Wish – what do you want to achieve.
  • Outcome – how will it make you feel when you achieve it.
  • Obstacle – what obstacles will get in your way
  • Plan – what plan can you make to deal with those obstacles.

It’s a very simple process (you can find out more on woopmylife.org) hat I’ve been experimenting with.

One of the things I’ve noticed is that the Obstacles are often limiting beliefs – these limiting beliefs are amenable to tapping – which leads to WOOT:

  • Wish  – what do you want to achieve
  • Outcome – how would fulfilling that wish make you feel when you get it.
  • Obstactle – may be a limiting belief
  • Tapping – resolving the limiting belief

Join Andy Hunt at the EFT Cafe to explore WOOPing and WOOTing on Wednesday 14th February at St Oswald’s Hospice Education Centre from 7pm-9pm.

EFT Cafe – 10th Jan 2018 – Getting The Most Out Of Your SUDs!

A fundamental part of EFT/Tapping is scaling emotional distress. When we are working on a painful feeling or limiting belief we ourselves or our clients:

  • How bad does ‘it’ feel on a scale of 0 to 10?
  • How true does ‘it’ feel on a scale of 0 to 10?

The number they give us are known as the SUDs or Subjective Units of Distress. Then we tap on the meridian points to reduce the strength of the emotional distress using the SUDs to measure our progress.

In an ideal world just one round of tapping would dissolve the emotional distress and we’d feel completely better, but in the real world things are not so straightforward, some feelings make take several, or even many, rounds of tapping.

Most of the time we just use the SUDs score to track our progress, but what if we could use the SUDs score to help us make our tapping more specific and more effective?

Join Andy Hunt at the EFT Cafe on Wednesday 10th January 2018 to find out how.
